  • As slowly as the game was slipping away from the Eldorado volleyball team, the Eagles were just able to grab the rope back and hang on to knock off Elverado in three sets Thursday night, winning the first match 25-18, before falling 25-14 and winning the deciding match 25-23.
Eldorado head coach Lisa Craig says the second game has continued to be an achilles heels for her program.
"It's like we have a curse in the second game," Craig said. "I don't know what it is about that game, but it's something that we're going to have to get over."
Caitlin Burnett finished with 69 sets on the night, while providing 21 spikes. She was also 12-for-12 at the service line with 11 points and had 15 digs.
Kourtney Phillips had 12 points from the service line, going 10-of-12, while finishing with 19 spikes and six kills. Phillips had 23 digs and one set.
Megan Lowe finished with 14 points, including the game winner in the third match. Lowe had 16 digs, to go along with six kills, 28 spikes and five sets.
Olivia Brown had 31 digs and finished with seven points, while Corrina Steed went 3-for-3 on sets and 24-of-30 on spikes. Steed went 6-for-6 on serves to finish with seven points and 21 digs.
Christine Williams had 13 points on 12-of-13 serving and 34 digs, while Elsie Talkington went 2-for-2 on sets, 1-for-1 on spikes and 2-for-2 on kills. Sadie Steed went 1-for-1 from the service line to finish with one point.
After Eldorado and Elverado traded matches, forcing a third, the game saw 12 ties. Elverado took a 13-12 lead and turned it into a 15-13 lead before the Eagles stormed back to knot the game at 15-all. After the game was tied at 19-all, Eldorado made a run for the finish line taking a 20-19 lead on a return by Lowe.
Elverado was able to tie the game at 23-23, but the Eagles were able to get the last two points compliments of a outback by Corrina Steed and a serve by Lowe.
"They kept digging and kept working," Craig said. "Elverado has a very, very good team. There was very few balls that they did not bring up and I don't think they missed a serve. They're a very good team."
In other volleyball action Thursday night, Carrier Mills defeated Gallatin County 25-11 and 25-20.
