  • The Cache River Band will headline Rustle Hill Winery's upcoming third annual "Pick of the Vine" charity fundraiser. Plans have been set for the Sept. 9 all-day gathering at Rustle Hill Winery in Cobden, with proceeds going to the Fowler-Bonan Foundation's "Clothes for Kids" program.
The Fowler-Bonan Foundation provides underprivileged school children with new clothes and shoes, based on referrals from area schools.
"We are really excited about this event," said Teri Hammond, event coordinator for Rustle Hill Winery. "This is the third year we have held the "Pick of the Vine" event, which showcases great local music, art and food. We anticipate a big crowd to come out and help us support the Fowler-Bonan Foundation's 'Clothes for Kids' drive. In a time when there seem to be a lot of worthy causes asking for help, we are thrilled to be able to help with one that benefits area children as much as this one."
Eli Tellor will perform from noon until 2 p.m., followed by the Bone Dry River Band from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Cache River Band takes the main stage from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"We focus on outlaw country and classic southern rock," Cache River Band frontman Jeff Mears said. "But we have a wide variety of music to try to please as many people as possible. Our main goal is to have fun and watch everybody else have fun with us."
Food vendors featured will include the Brick House Grill, The Blue Boar, OpenGate Meats and, of course, Rustle Hill Winery. This year will also feature a booth from Yesteryear Tobacconists, as well as area artists. Vendors will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the foundation. Main Street T's will have T-shirts for sale with all of their proceeds benefitting the foundation.
Items offered by local artists will include "Twisted Creativity" handmade jewelry by Lisa Smith, Mary Ann Patterson's glass art and Designs by Kinley.
Dale Millis, of Dale Millis Auctions in Cobden, will run a live auction at about 4:45 p.m. Auction items may still be donated by contacting Hammond for details.
Fowler-Bonan Foundation Co-Founder Dale Fowler said his group was thrilled to be invited to partner with Rustle Hill in the endeavor.
"As our organization continues to grow, it's a great opportunity for us to showcase what it is that we do," Fowler said. "Plus, the entertainment lineup promises to make for a great day of fun."
Admission is free, with attendees simply encouraged to make a donation to the Fowler-Bonan Foundation board at their informational booth, in lieu of a cover charge.
The event is open to all ages. Those over the age of 21 will be given wristbands if they wish to drink alcohol. Rustle Hill Winery opens at 10 a.m. and is located at 8595 U.S. Route 51 North in Cobden (eight miles south of Carbondale and eight miles north of Anna).
