  • Many years ago, the Pleasant Valley Go-Getters 4-H club started a tradition of eating a potluck lunch together one day during the week of the Saline County Fair and the competitions that come with it. This year, the lunch is set for noon Thursday and all 4-Hers, past and present, are invited to attend.
“It started because there was no fast food back then so the group started doing a potluck meal,” said Nancy Evans, of the Pleasant Valley Go-Getters.
She said it has since expanded to include anyone involved in 4-H, not just their particular group. There is no cost to participate but people are asked to bring a dish for the meal.
“Lots of families come,” said Nancy Lambert, longtime 4-Her and University of Illinois Extension Program Coordinator for Youth. “It is almost like a reunion.”
Evans said the Pleasant Valley Go-Getters were founded about 50 years ago and the potluck event has been going on for almost as long.
