  • A fun annual event involving a very long water fight is set for Thursday evening after the beef show at the Saline County Fair. The water fight has been an annual event during the fair for so long that no one can seem to remember why or how it started.
The event is expected to begin around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., depending on how long the beef show lasts.
Danny Evans, leader of the Pleasant Valley Go-Getters 4-H group, said the tradition is for the water fight to last as long as the temperature reached the previous day.
Last year he said it lasted 92 minutes, but with this year's extreme heat, 4-Hers are looking at a very long water fight Thursday night.
Evans said people use water balloons, hoses, buckets and anything else they can find to participate in the massive water fight.
